Many may wonder what Pastor's Korner is all about. It is a new teaching ministry of Wesley Grove Chapel, and one of the pastors will give you devotional help to equip, teach, and encourage you as a believer. As pastors, we must do these so that you may be a better minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ where you are called to do so. As we look at scripture, we see why these three elements are important.
To Equip
We read in Ephesians 4:11-12, "And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds, and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ," that are given gifts to build up the body of Christ. This passage talks about shepherds, and that Greek word used here can also be translated as pastor, as pastors are given a mandate in scripture to equip the body of Christ so they can go out and share the gospel.
To Teach
Matthew 28:18-20 Says, "And Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.'" In verse 20, Jesus even commands us to go and teach what God had taught us to do. It is a mandate from the Lord that we need to teach others.
To Encourage
In 1 Thessalonians 5:11, it says, "Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing." The Apostle Paul was writing to the Thessalonians that they should encourage one another. What does encourage mean? The Oxford English Dictionary gives this meaning, "give support, confidence, or hope to (someone)." The Greek word used in the Bible is translated as encouraged but could also be translated as invoked by imploration, to call for, or to desire. That is our goal to do with this devotional series.
In closing, I pray you will be encouraged, taught, and equipped to be better ministers wherever the Lord calls you to serve by Pastor's Korner.
